Why Most Businesses Have Analytics Installed But Nobody Opens It
The dashboard nobody opens
Most businesses I work with have analytics tools installed. Google Analytics has been running for years. Some have PostHog or Hotjar. A few have all three.
And almost nobody opens them.
Not because the tools are bad. They're excellent. But because there's a gap between having data and knowing what to do with it.
The real problem isn't the data — it's the question
Google Analytics gives you 50+ reports. Traffic by source. Bounce rate by page. User demographics. Device breakdowns.
But none of these reports answer the question that actually matters: why aren't more visitors buying?
That question requires a different kind of analysis:
- Watching actual screen recordings of users who didn't convert
- Mapping the exact step where people leave your funnel
- Understanding what confused them, what they couldn't find, what friction stopped them
Traffic reports tell you how many people visited. Behavioural analytics tells you what they did — and where they gave up.
What to do instead
If you have analytics installed but aren't using it, here's the simplest starting point:
- Pick one metric. Not ten. One. Usually it's your conversion rate: visitors who complete the action that matters (purchase, booking, sign-up).
- Find your biggest drop-off. Look at your funnel. Where do the most people leave? That's your leak.
- Watch 20 recordings of people who left at that step. Not aggregate data. Real people. You'll see the problem within an hour.
- Fix the most obvious thing. Usually it's a confusing form field, a missing button, an extra click that shouldn't exist.
That's it. One metric, one leak, one fix. Repeat.
The gap we fill
This is exactly what ARIM does. We install the analytics properly, watch the behaviour for a week, find the leaks, and tell you exactly what to fix — ranked by how much revenue each fix is likely to recover.
Not a monthly report. Not a dashboard. A specific list of changes that a developer can implement tomorrow.
If you're sitting on analytics data you never look at, it might be time to actually use it.
